The boat docking aid is meant to extend the user's reach approximately 3 feet beyond arm's length, beyond the sides of the boat, without the dangers associated with leaning over the side of a vessel.
It allows the user to gain control of the docking area safely, whether a dock pylon or cleat is to be used, and to permit the vessel to be tied up without needing the ability or knowledge of knot tying.

| The handle of the docking aid extends the users reach, and due to design, has no structural load placed upon it after that. One end of the rope is attached to the boat cleat, as usual. Once the dock loop is placed over the pylon, there is actually no need to tighten the loop, gravity holds it in place. The free end of the rope at the docking aid is pulled, thereby adjusting the free length of the rope to whatever length the user feels appropriate for tide movement. You are now effectively docked and tied, safely and easily. The entire docking aid is left in place, until such time as the vessel is to leave the docking area. Then the entire unit is simply lifted off the pylon and stowed. The adjustable feature of the belt loop is included mainly for where only cleats are available.
